We are all aware of the dangers of smoking and the long term health effects it has on the body. It is a known fact that smoking can greatly increase your chances for heart disease and cancer. Not to mention that smoking has gotten very expensive with some brands going for over $7 a pack. I have never smoked and therefore cannot understand the addictive power of cigarettes and the nicotine contained in them. There are pills, patches, gum, and vadious other medical resources available to help people stop smoking. Many of the large corporations are even paying the fees to help people quit smoking because they know the long term health risks and the overall cost to health insurance.
Even with all the stop smoking ads and warnings there is still a rise in women and young adults who are starting to smoke. There are trials that are currently available like EAGLES that are now enrolling patients between the ages of 18-75 who are smoking daily are looking for a new way to try and quit. So for 2012 why not write your goal down “Stop Smoking” and look for resources and support to help you kick the habit.

With only a few short days left until Christmas people are frantically searching online and their local malls for that last minute gift idea. I might suggest leather presents that are traditional and can be used on a daily basis. A nice tan leather wallet or carrying case for their new iPad may be just the gift that they were not expecting. Almost everyone loves getting gifts that they can use on a more frequent basis. I know I have a leather carrier for my iPad that I use everyday and is a reminder of the gift I received last year.

We just got done finishing our basement and one of the big factors that we considered was the type of flooring that we could use. We knew that carpet was fine but we also had an office space and wanted to put some sort of tile or hardwood flooring. Knowing there would be moisture issues we landed on carpet all the way through and now I find basement floor tile that gives the look of ceramic or wood and can be installed by anyone. The patterns and styles that are available are really nice and even for the DYI folks this is a great alternative. They are made for the basement so cracking and moisture in the basement is not really in issue.

I was recently asked during a health update if I smoke? I was not sure on how to answer since while I do not smoke daily there are occasions that I will a good cigar on the golf course or while at a friends party. I clarified what they were asking and the occasional use of tobacco less than once per week was not classified as using tobacco. While smoking is not great for your health an occasional Dutch Master cigar while out with the boys or out on the course can be relaxing. If you look at George Burns he smoked cigars daily and lived to be over 90. That is not an endorsement but done in moderation almost anything can be ok.

I am loving all the Christmas specials coming on my direct tv right now! It is totally getting me in the Christmas spirit! The other night we watched Elf as we decorated the Christmas tree! That is becoming a classic movie to our family. My son’s favorite part is watching Will Farrell eat all of the nasty things he eats in that movie. Spaghetti noodles drenched in syrup for breakfast seem to make my son crack up! Every time we watch that part, he begs me to let him try that for breakfast sometime. Thankfully he never remembers his request in the morning! We have been watching a Christmas movie every night after dinner. It is so cozy cuddling on the couch with the lights on the tree. Of course we will keep our tradition and save ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ to watch on Christmas Eve! I don’t think I have missed a year of watching that movie on Christmas Eve. I am usually cuddled with my family, all wearing our new pajamas, and baking cookies for Santa! I love this time of year.
